Florida water is a perfumed water that's used in religious or spiritual rituals. Some believe that it helps ward off negative energy and bring good luck. Use Florida water to cleanse your home, your clothing, or your altars. Spritz it on your body to attract good luck and repel bad energy.

Florida Water is technically an eau de cologne (that's literally "cologne water" in English), but its formula, which hasn't changed much since its creation, has shown to have all kinds of purposes, too. It was originally created by perfumer Robert Murray but in 1835, businessman David Lanman, joined the company, followed in 1853 by another businessman George Kemp.

Murray's recipe includes an alcohol base with water, and a proprietary mix of oils that gives Florida Water its citrusy, fresh, foug re kind of scent. "It has the same citrus base as [a traditional] cologne water, but shifts the emphasis to sweet orange rather than the lemon or neroli," Laguna Beach-based cosmetic chemist and perfume developer Vince Spinnato explains to Allure. "It adds spicy notes including lavender and clove." The formula also includes cinnamon, bergamot, rose, and orange flower, though the company has been careful not to reveal the entire original recipe in efforts to maintain its secret.

People use Florida Water to clean things of physical impurities, but it's also popular among spiritual practitioners. "The best thing about Florida Water is [its spiritual] cleansing or healing properties," some call it a "powerhouse of a cleanser," which believers use to make sure their spaces and personal effects are spiritually sanitized. You can use it to wipe down your spiritual altar space and make sure every part of your home and even your clothes are spiritually clean, you can use it in spiritual bath waters and floor washes.
